Throughout his 19-year career at CKNW, Rafe Mair was often the top-rated radio show host in Canada. His fiery, entertaining, and insightful style of political commentary and tough interviews made him a force to be reckoned with in BC – affirmed by his winning of virtually every major award in Canadian broadcasting, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Jack Webster Foundation, and being inducted into the Canadian Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Through several landmark legal battles, Rafe also helped expand free-speech protections for all Canadian journalists.
Though Rafe continues to appear on the radio today with a popular weekly segment on CBC, the increasingly corporatized commercial radio market has no place for a voice as powerful and independent as his. But now, thanks to The Common Sense Canadian, fans of Mair will again be able to hear him through the forthcoming Rafe & Damien Show – a one-hour weekly discussion program that will be podcast, streamed and archived on theCanadian.org. Rafe will be joined by colleague Damien Gillis in discussing important, controversial topics relating to the environment, economy, and, of course, politics. The show, which will launch on theCanadian.org this summer, will feature guests from The Common Sense Canadian‘s superb cast of contributors, as well as other interesting interviewees and audio reports.
