Read this July 27 story from Malaysian news site, citing comments from BC Finance Minister Mike de Jong in that country as evidence that a construction start on Petronas’ proposed LNG project near Prince Rupert is imminent. No mention is made of the strong opposition the project faces from First Nations on whose unceded territories construction would take place.

KUALA LUMPUR: Construction of Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) multi-billion ringgit liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal project in Canada is expected to start in September.

“We are awaiting the final environmental certificate. We are hoping by this fall. All of the other prerequisites have been dealt with now,” said British Columbia (BC) Finance Minister Michael de Jong.

The final puzzle piece that remains for the US$36bil (RM137.4bil) project, is the environmental certificate from Canada’s central government.

“Petronas and their partners are working through that exercise. We are optimistic that in the very near future that that work will be completed,” he told reporters here on Monday.

The Petronas-led Pacific NorthWest LNG project in north-eastern BC, Canada, involves the construction of facilities to process and export natural gas to be produced by Progress Energy Canada Ltd.

The minister was on a visit to Malaysia to confirm the passage of BC’s legislation that allowed the ratification of the agreement between Petronas, its international partners, and the BC government.

    More liberal lies

First Nations would be silly to accept a LNG deal from BC as a partner, look at the numbers, …….. BC logs the deal at a 1 T GDP over the 20 to 30 year timeframe, BC will make 100 B in revenue, First Nations will bake under 5 B. Time for First Nations to understand the numbers.

We can now see timing was/is a bit off. The date is now Feb. 13 2016 and no start yet.

The arrogance of govt and big business.
    Never ceases to amaze me……

The Liberals have decided if they just ignore the First Nations they’ll go away. I do believe the government is in for a surprise. The Liberals believe in an adversarial style of government and it shows. The future looks interesting.

without the consent of the First Nations or most other of the population of BC.
